Writer’s Circle

The Ghion Journal is an experiment of sorts. Our mission is to reclaim journalism from the hands of six corporations who have a near total monopoly on how news and information is disseminated and consumed by society. Our purpose is to give people an alternative from the junk food that is corporate media. The very notion of a “free press” has been nullified and replaced by a corporate model of infomercials where pundits and personalities echo authority instead of questioning it.

Where corporate media has abandoned the principles of journalism, it is left to independent media to carry the torch, root out corruption and speak truth to power. It is hard to speak truth to power while getting paid by power. We thus made a decision to disavow all corporate contributions. Instead of depending on the largess of corporations and the 1%, we cast our lot with the people and aim to give a voice to the voiceless. We do this being a people powered publication. Modeled after one of our favorite restaurants in Fort Collins, CO called FoCo Cafe, instead of fixing a price for our work, we simply ask our readers and audience to contribute as they can.

In the process, we are doing our part to offer an alternative to the corporate model of entrepreneurship. Instead of building a top down hierarchy, we are striving to build a flat architecture where writers share general revenues based on percentage of views their articles draw while getting 100% of the donations that are earmarked for them through customized tip jars in each article. While we don’t envision becoming the next Ted Turner, we are confident that a media company can be birthed through the empowerment of the community. Without further ado, meet our writers.
