This week’s BizLight is being shone at EthioTube. This article thus serves a dual purpose. The primary reason I am writing this is to highlight a private business that is doing good for the community that they serve. EthioTube, started by Alemayehu Gemeda and Muktar Mohammed, is an Ethio-centric company with the aim of offering a social platform for Ethiopians, and people who love Ethiopian culture, to gather and watch a broad dissection of videos.
What started off as an open network that depended on members to upload their own video and provide content has now grown into a full blown media company that offers a wide range of programs and original content. Ranked 187,000 in the world, EthioTube is one of the most foremost visited websites in the world. Just to put things into perspective, there are over 1.5 billion websites in the world, EthioTube is in the top .001% websites globally.
Which leads to the second reason why I am writing this article. In the age where 90% plus of all information is owned and aired by just six companies, it is imperative that we patronize and empower media entities that provide an alternative to the corporate narrative. EthioTube is a viable alternative to YouTube, instead of watching Ethiopian music or watching programming about Ethiopian culture on a platform owned by Google, I highly encourage you to give EthioTube a try and make that one of your preferred choices going forward. Below is an interview by the two founders of EthioTube (which is in Amharic).
Make sure to bookmark their website www.ethiotube.net and jump below the video to follow their work on the various social media platforms.
