Examining the Shield Maidens: A Look at the Women of the Alt-Right

Editor’s note: Leslie the Mad Blender has been creating some great, incisive video analysis of culture and politics over the past year or two. We showcased one of her videos last month and also asked her to write articles for publication here (as well as post any future videos she creates). She graciously accepted. This is her inaugural post here on The Ghion Journal, her most recent video. Here’s Leslie to explain.

Hi Ghion readers and viewers,

Today we’ll be discussing the women of the alt right, specifically focusing on their rhetoric and recruiting strategies. We’ll shine a spotlight on prominent women in the movement, including Lana Lokteff, Ayla Stewart, Faith Goldy and Lauren Southern (although I guess Lauren officially quit as I was editing this vid…lets hope it sticks.)

Leslie the Mad Blender is a radical leftist political commentator interested in exposing the contradictory ideological and material underpinnings of capitalism. She believes in politics that are built around the sustainable future we seek. To advance these prefigurative politics, Leslie sees grassroots movement-building as essential for creating meaningful change in a world that is literally melting.
