
The foundation of the United States of America is built on the bedrock of rebellion; in the DNA of of our country and her citizenry is the soul of revolutionaries who blanche at the thought of having our freedoms tread upon by anybody. It is precisely because our government is well aware that they can’t impose tyranny upon us that they have been chipping away at our liberties for generations.
What started with nibbles in the 20th century escalated to chomps after 9/11; using a horrific day of terror as a pretext, the Patriot Act was the nail in the coffin of the United States Constitution. The final nails are being driven into the casket live on TV as the Senate begins the impeachment of Donald John Trump. I assure you, my fellow Americans, Trump is but the window dressing; what impeachment managers are attempting to do is criminalize the rights the Founders of this country enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Thomas Jefferson once noted that Americans must rise up and revolt every generation in order to prevent the settling of the very despotism that the colonialists fought against. He wrote these hallowed words in the Declaration of Independence:
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed—that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. ” [source Declaration of Independence]
Thomas Jefferson was continually distressed that the new government the Founders formed would consolidate power and revert to the very same totalitarianisms the revolutionaries successfully overturned in 1776. What he feared came to pass before the ink on the Constitution barely dried; led by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and the Federalists, the American Revolution was erased and replaced by autocracy that cunningly used “representative democracy” to hide the invisible hands of autocrats that made King George look like Mother Theresa by comparison.
Benjamin Franklin, when asked by an elderly lady what they had delivered, responded “a Republic if you keep it”. Before the Republic was handed over to the people, it was aborted in the womb. From the still born fetus grew a monstrous and oppressive junta in DC that governs without consent, taxes without true representation and rules through a mix of psychological warfare and brutal repression. George Washington warned of political factions only for his caution to be thrown overboard as Democrats and Republicans collude to stifle our voices and snuff out any semblance of democracy from taking root.
Thomas Paine once prophetically warned, “a body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody”. Two hundred years later, we are ruled by a body of men and women who hold themselves accountable to no one; the idea that our elected officials are kept honest by rigged ballots and predetermined primaries is about as laughable as Obama being original, Trump being against the “deep state” and Biden being a trustworthy babysitter. The reality is that politicians don’t respond to us; they are owned 100% by the plutocrats who finance their campaigns and bankroll their lifestyles after they leave office.
The founders of America, at least the ones like Jefferson whose ideas were actually redemptive even if their morals were bankrupt, knew that the only thing that stood between liberty and tyranny was a credible threat of a violent revolution. This is why the Second Amendment enshrined in the Constitution the rights of Americans to bear arms. We were never even supposed to have a standing army, the idea was to have a citizen-army that could defend the nation from external threats and overthrow the government in the event it became too big and too unresponsive. The founders intentions were vitiated and supplanted by the evils of Federalism that has turned America into a dystopian society and a democracy in name only.
To this end, what the “insurrectionists” did on January 6th was not sedition but patriotism at its peak form. Though the underlying logic of some of the protestors was absurd, rallying behind Donald Trump is about as moronic as Catholic abuse survivors gathering at the Vatican to defend priests, their action in taking over the US Capitol was honorable and just. The treasonous souls were not the ones who “invaded” the people’s house, after all many of them were literally invited by the Capitol police; to the contrary the truly subversive agents were, and are, the corrupt politicians who do the bidding of globalists while they take away our freedoms on a daily basis.
Pay attention to the words that will be bandied about over the coming days and weeks as duplicitous lawyers build a case against Trump. Read between the lines and you will realize what these treacherous politicians are putting between the crosshairs are Americans who are growing tired of our necks being stepped on. They are laying the groundwork to go after not only those who did as Thomas Jefferson advised and took the fight to the halls of power but anyone in the future who advocates for any form of revolution. Using “white supremacy” as a bogeyman, they will lay the pretext to go after any American, irrespective of identity or ideology, who dares to push back against unchecked power.
One of the stars of today’s proceedings was Maryland’s Congressman Jamie Raskin, who gave “a passionate speech” excoriating Trump for his reckless demeanors on January 6th and then went on to describe how his own children were hiding in a nearby office fearful for their lives. Now he knows how hundreds of thousands of parents around the world feel as they witness their children lose their innocence at the hands of destabilization efforts that he and his neoliberal cronies supported for decades without a hint of remorse. Moreover, Raskins first act when he got elected in 2017 was to object the certification of Trump’s election. By his own definition, Raskin is a seditious snake who should be locked up along with Trump—what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Most of the people who took part in the “insurrection” were ex-military and veterans who fought overseas. These men and women know a thing or two about tyranny, most of them bled and scarified in defense of a freedom they thought they had here at home. Upon arriving back in America from their tours, they realized that the truest form of despotism was not in some far-flung corner of the world but right here in our nation’s capital. By rising up and seeking redress in the very house they defended with their blood, the “insurrectionists” were giving the rest of us a blueprint for a future revolution.
It is this blueprint that is on trial in the Senate; Trump is just another mannequin meant to hide the true targets of the impeachment. Politicians, pundits and opinion leaders are conditioning us for a future where anyone who dares to question authority will be prosecuted for being an “insurrectionist”, one of these days writers and independent journalists like me who shine the light on the massive corruption that is taking place in the District of Columbia will be tried and potentially hung for being seditious. This is an opinion piece. While I believe Americans have a Constitutional right to redeem our government if it is not acting in our interests, as a matter of philosophy, I am anti-violence and believe that only love can overcome injustice and iniquity. This article is a reminder to all Americans that we, the people, have the final say when it comes to our governance and also serves to remind those in power the perils of ruling without the consent of the governed.
